Here’s a question that may stir the pot:

Why do churches continue to place trivial demands on time-starved families? The fact that few come may indicate a lack of relevance or a greater need for some Biblical “sabbath time” with those they love!

    Thoughts?

  6. dannydodd says:

  10. teresa says:

I guess sometimes I think families have a greater need to spend some relaxing, non-structured time together than come punch the clock on a Sunday night service. As a school teacher, I see some very stressed out kids from being involved in too many activities. I hate to think that the church could be compounding that problem with activities done just “because we’ve always done it that way.” (Not that all services or activities are done for that reason, but it can be an easy trap to fall into.)

  12. Lance says:

Regarding the apathy towards Sunday and Wednesday night activiites, I think “family time” is often an excuse for not coming on Sunday and Wednesday night, because it’s hard to criticize a family wanting to spend time together. However, families throughout the week are choosing sports over family time, choosing to work needless longer hours over family time, and choosing other pursuits rather than finding time together as a family. It’s interesting to me that church involvement gets sacrificed, while our athletic activities, excess work involvement and other pursuits are too sacred to cut.
